Strong 25mph (force4 to 5) winds made for good sailing today at Arden Sailing Club
(near Defford) however the heavy rain during the first race spoiled the fun for sailors
and spectators alike.
The first race of the day, number 6 in the Arden Burgee series, saw four boats line
up - with two interesting ducking's for Eric Ison - before he untied from the landing
stage! Good sailing kept all of the boats upright until the final buoy a mere 100
yards from the finish line where a gust pushed David Stephen's laser on its side
unusually causing him to swim before he could upright his boat. The ducking concerned
him less than allowing the Herron of David Brydon to pass! Result: 1st Eric Ison
(Laser) , 2nd Alan Browning (Solo), 3rd David Bryden (Herron), 4th David Stephen
(Laser)
The second (Herron /Commodore's cup) and third (Bert Thurlow Trophy) race of the
day were run in parallel. The OOD, Stuart Stephen, left the 4 buoy zigzag course
as it was from the first race on the theory that conditions were testing enough!
Despite several threatened capsizes and broaches all survived the race. Results:
(BTT)1st Eric Ison (Laser), 2nd David Stephen (Laser). (H/CC) 1st Alan Browning
(Solo), 2nd David Bryden(Herron)
